Important Antique French Empire mantel clock of Hector defending Paris stamped Thomire a paris

Antique and magnificent French Empire ormolu mantel clock, showing Hector defending Paris, by Thomire. A very large and dramatic clock, this important piece in fire gilded mercury ormolu is sparing in its mounts, which makes it all the more spectacular as the eye is not confused by the multiplicity of mounts. Thomires hand can be seen in the incredibly fine sculpting of Hector and Paris, the casting detail in their faces and Hectors shield, the mount to the base is typical of Thomires style. Hector can be seen holding his shield outstretched whilst holding Paris, as if to defend from arrows. The detail of his helmet and sheathed sword is extradinary. The right side of clock case is stamped 'Thomire a Paris' whilst the join between Hectors upper body and lower body is stamped several times with the letter 'P', for Pierre-Philippe Thomire. The fine ormolu dial with engraved Roman numerals and ormolu hands. The back of the movement is stamped Leroy, for the famous family of clockmakers The movement with outside countwheel, silk suspended pendulum, unusually features very large spring barrels which allow the movement upto a month duration when fully wound. This is an incredibly rare model, the only other similar model but in sienna marble and patinated bronze and completely unsigned in the Spanish royal collection, 'Catalogo De Relojes Del Patrimonio Nacional' pp. 277 French circa 1810 - 1815. 26 and a half inches tall by 18inches wide by 8 inches deep
