Antique miniature red tortoiseshell and bronze paste set mantel clock in early 18th century style. The clock with gilt bronze finials and feet and decorated all round with tortoiseshell veneers on a wooden carcase. Fine enamel dial decorated with swags of flowers and lovely gilt bronze and pierced hands pointing to the Arabic numerals. The dial is surrounded by a glazed bezel with paste brilliants inset. The fine 8 day spring movement regulated by a vertical lever escapement and striking the hours and halves on a bell via rack strike. The backplate of the movement stamped by the maker M. Mougin. France circa 1880. 9 inches high ( including handle) by 5 inches wide by 3.75 inches deep ( 22.5cm by 12.5 cms by 9.3 cm).
