Antique French 1st Empire ormolu encrier of circular form with inkpots, pin pots and pen holders. This superb encrier or deskset with original fire or mercury gilded ormolu is in excellent original condition. Set on three paw feet the circular base with moulding decorated with the sharpest casting of stiff leaf and stem decoration. The side of the encrier is decorated with basket weave while the top edge is decorated with concentric circles of beading and another of stars. The top plate of the encrier is of patinated bronze with inserts for sander, inkwell and pin and etc. pots each top has the same unusual pattern rather like a keyhole or pair of dividers. There are also four ormolu inserts for quills. The central stem terminates in a wreath of Acanthus. French circa 1805. 5 inch diameter and 6.25 inches high ( 12.5 cm by 15.625 cm)
