A magnificent quality and very rare English George III or Regency white marble, patinated bronze and ormolu paperweight by the eminent maker Thomas Weeks of Tichborne St. London. On a rectangular Carrera white marble base with canted corners and with ormolu beading within a moulding. Set on the base is a an ormolu plate on which stands a superbly cast, chased and finished Lion saddled with classical drapes and a girth made from laurel. Sitting upon the lion's back is a seated figure of the winged cupid in fire gilt ormolu holding up a tablet on which is engraved "Omnia Vincit Amor" or "Love conquers all". It is possible to see the hand finishing of the Graveur on the lion where the lines run down his coat to provide texture to the piece and to his mane. The same work can be seen on the body of the cupid.
