A quite stunning French cut crystal inkwell, with extremely elegantly worked neoclassical mounts, intricate scrolling filligree and very finely detailed sphinxs as the feet. The level of detail on this impressively sized piece is quite extradinary. On top of the lid is a fine mount of a sphinx, whilst entwined around the lid are leaves. The front depicts two maidens holding up bunche of grapes with a crowned eagle resting on lightning bolts between them. To the sides, are further classically dressed maidens kneeling between a standing flame. The piece is held up by four sphinxs of fine quality, of heavy gilt bronze. On the base of the cut crystal inkwell, has been cut a star symbol. A beautiful and elegant piece. 21cm High by 15cm Long
